The 2014 Guy Medal in Silver was awarded to Jianqing Fan by the Royal Statistical Society for (1) his seminal papers Sure independence screening for ultra-high dimensional feature space and Large covariance estimation by thresholding principal orthogonal complements (read to the Society in 2008 and 2013, respectively), (2) his path-breaking research in high-dimensional statistical learning and inferences, (3) his important contributions to non-parametric and semi-parametric statistics, and (4) his service to the international statistical community. The award was presented at the Royal Statistical Society’s 2014 annual meeting held in Sheffield, UK from September 2-4, 2014.
