Event Description

The Princeton Institute for Computational Science & Engineering (PICSciE) and OIT Research Computing , along with the Center for Statistics and Machine Learning(link is external), are announcing a two-week Research Computing Bootcamp held virtually during Winter Break, from January 19-29, 2021.

Location: Virtual (Zoom links will be emailed to registrants closer to the start date)

Registration(link is external)(link is external) is now open for the Winter 2021 Research Computing Bootcamp, co-sponsored by PICSciE, OIT Research Computing, and the Center for Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML)(link is external)(link is external).

This two-week virtual bootcamp will introduce some foundational topics, tools, and techniques that underpin modern computational research. Week 1 covers essentials of research computing.  Week 2 is an intensive introduction to high-performance computing (HPC). A detailed schedule and description of each session (and its prerequisites) can be found at the Winter 2021 Bootcamp website(link is external)(link is external)(all dates and times listed are Princeton local time (EST)).

Please read the schedule and course descriptions(link is external)(link is external) carefully, and then register "a-la carte" for only the individual sessions you need.  Note that some sessions run in parallel, overlapping in time either partly or completely, so you should take care to avoid overlapping sessions in your itinerary.

Registration is by-session via this form(link is external)(link is external) and requires an active Princeton NetID. After submitting your registration, you will be emailed a copy of your itinerary along with a link to edit your registration later, should your plans or interests change.  Registration information may be edited up until 5PM on Friday January 15, 2021.

Setup Assistance

Users who need help setting up any technical prerequisites in advance of the bootcamp can attend a drop-in "setup assistance session" that will be held over Zoom on Monday January 18 from 3:30 - 5 PM.   There will be little to no technical troubleshooting during the bootcamp itself, so please set up any prerequisites in advance and attend the drop-in session if you encounter issues.

Zoom information

Zoom information both for the assistance session and for the rest of the bootcamp sessions will be posted both here and on the Bootcamp website(link is external)(link is external) closer to the starting date.

We look forward to seeing you in January!
